Three Waiter Skills You Need To Be A Singing Waiter

The World of singing entertainment, although seemingly vast, contains but a few avenues for those who want to make it in Singing Waiter Entertainment.

Criteria Explained

“Well, three…that’s not that much!”, you say…or think…and you might be right.  All of The Amazing Waiter performers have major Broadway, Opera or Theatrical experience.  Or what we call, “Street Cred”.  They’ve earned their stripes as a singer in the real performing world.  That’s “singing is your career”.

Being A Waiter Gives You Amazing Insight In Being A Singing Waiter

“How?” You ask…Well, a singing waiter poses as a waiter.  And we like to think being a method actor is a great approach in this instance.  “Being, is”.  Be a waiter and a singer, and you are by definition, a “Singing Waiter”.  Having experience in how people are in a banquet or party setting will help you immensely when you are tasked to “set up” the show by hoaxing as a waiter.  You have to be believable, know how to pour water, how to set and clear plates, etc.  Know the lingo and you’ll be respected by the staff that  you are trying to look and pose like.  Life just got a lot easier.

Improv will save your backside!

Yes, you’ve learned your parts and you’re ready to sing your little heart out.  But, what makes this type of entertainment fun and scary all at the same time is that the unexpected improv will save your backside as a singing waiterprobably will happen.  And it won’t happen the way you might think.  Having those improvisational skills as an entertainer, not just as a singing waiter, but as a career entertainer will serve you well Jedi!

The Amazing Waiters:  A Memorable Hit

Having an ensemble that has diversity can bring out the most creative ideas without limitations.  Recently, we had a client request for something completely out-of-the-box, spontaneous, and very, very cool…and we’d like to share it with you.

We enjoy entertaining audiences of all sizes.  This particular event was for 600 people at the Opera House in Los Angeles.  It as so great to have the opportunity to return home in a way that would really surprise people.

This beautiful night had lots of diverse entertainment that included a band, live violinists, a jazz ensemble and a handful of others.  Our client, on this particular night, wanted the surprise element but not singing waiters.  They knew they wanted the surprise to be Phantom Of The Opera first, then a well-known Pop song by Gnarles Barkley.  What?!  How do those two things work together?  That’s where our diversity came in.  Take a look at the video.  Imagine this immediately following the dramatic Phantom Of The Opera Duet with Christine and the Phantom…

It seems to be harder to find wholesome entertainment these days. We’re not talking about animated features (that’s a whole other subject) but live Entertainment that’s appreciated by not only the younger audiences but the parents as well.

It doesn’t take one long to sit and realize that entertainment has changed radically over the past 20 years. Most “entertainment” now must include potty humor of some kind as well as a lot of pop slang that is here today and gone tomorrow (again, another story in itself)…

So here you are. On a corporate outing. You’ve done well this year and you got a few days on the company’s dime to network but to also R&R with the kids at some swanky resort. You end up at the main party, culminating your stay, and during your dinner, a comedian appears…Your 9 and 13 year olds are with you…you’ve noticed a few other co-workers have theirs there too. The show gets a bit racy and you’re forced to make a quick exit to avoid any potential birds and bees questions later in the hotel room. Night over with no desert.

One reason is that they have “set shows”, meaning that their script or song list is set and it cannot be changed once they are on site. No flexibility can kill a night.

The Amazing Waiters in San Diego, CA

This past weekend, the Amazing Waiters performed at the famed Hard Rock Hotel  in San Diego, California for a small group of very appreciative execs with a well-known cable company (Rock on Ladies and Gents!).

The 25 guests went with a Casino/Old Hollywood Theme having roulette, cards, black jack, craps with a lovely Marilyn Monroe look-alike adding to the theme. The Amazing Waiters, of course, were in waiter garb, one as the Assistant Catering Manager and the other as a good ole’ waiter, passing trays during the gambling and festivities, blending in giving great face time and getting acquainted with the guests.

Marilyn presented some awards with the CEO, dinner came out and then it was showtime!

James started this show with a funny schtick about music and the history of the Hard Rock and immediately went into Elvis’ Blue Suede Shoes.  Of course, as most of our Waiter shows go…there is some chaos as to whether it was a show or not (and that’s the way we like it) while they sang hits from the Rat Pack and Old Hollywood Era!  Allie, our lovely latest addition to the singing waiter family, wowed the guests with some amazing renditions of “Diamonds Are A Girl’s Best Friend” made famous by Marilyn, of course, and “Fever” which was a highlight of the evening, later joining James with a duet of “Fly Me To The Moon” and an encore stunner, Lady Gaga’s “Poker Face”. 

The Hard Rock has some lovely rooms with large wall art of famous Rock artists.  Our green room, for instance, featured the famed Jim Morrison

from the rock band, “The Doors”.  We couldn’t resist taking some pics with Jim looking over us.  The girls had to have some more shots with the rock legend, proving that his allure with the opposite sex is still pretty darn strong.
