And, with our most recent corporate party we did that and more this past weekend at the Sheraton, San Diego in San Diego, California.   In the words of Eagle’s band member, Randy Meisner, we managed to “take it to the limit”-it’s what our client wanted and that’s what he got.

“Affinage” in this case, was our most recent international corporate client.  Rooted in professional hair care and salons, we were honored to put on a show for such creative industry people.  This particular evening culminated meetings, sessions and business discussions.  The show was a perfect closing to a productive weekend for our clients, bringing levity and music to a multi-national audience.

80th Birthday Surprise Singers

This past weekend, we had the pleasure to sing at the Highland Park Country Club in Highland Park, Illinois.  Gerald, who was celebrating his 80th birthday, had a couple of surprise singers (us) posing as waiters and entertaining family and guests, alike.

This particular event had our “1+1 Show”- 1 Guy and 1 Girl singing classic hits from several generations that included, Fly Me To The Moon, The Lady is a Tramp, and more modern songs like Not for the Life of Me from Thoroughly Modern Millie.

As of today, 80 year olds are considered “The Silent Generation“.  But, in this case, this group was hardly “silent”.  A great bunch of people that were very generous with their kind words and open hearts.

Thank you, Alex!  I’ll take Surprise Waiters for 600…

It this even possible?  Can three performers surprise and entertain six hundred unsuspecting guests effectively?  Why yes.  Of course, we can!  And that’s what our surprise waiters did recently in the awesome city of Indianapolis, Indiana for a great group of independent cable visionaries that were convening on the city for brainstorming and networking sessions.

As we do, when a client decides to have The Amazing Waiters for their event, large or small, we begin gathering information about their party.  Everything from time lines to possible themes and even special VIPs or guests that may be attendance.  Once we have all necessary information, we begin tossing ideas back and forth with the client regarding how and where the special show will happen during the event.  During this phase, we discovered something interesting-something that took us back to our roots…when we entertained guests in Europe many moons ago…

SOUP COURSE PRESENTATION

Our clients are awesome.  We love it when they have crazy or unorthodox ideas about their event.  We love it when they like to integrate our surprise shows within these fun ideas.  And voila!  This was one of those moments.  Our client wanted to introduce the first course (the soup course) with a parade of waiters marching out, single file and serving the guests.  Our client wanted to know if we, as waiters could perform our surprise show during this time.  And of course, this course was PERFECT because, as mentioned earlier, we used to do this very thing as the original singing waiters act in Europe and it was high time we dusted off one of our signature songs that would be singularly appropriate for this presentation.  Be Our Guest from “Beauty and the Beast”.  We would sing the song while the parade of service staff entered the room with the soup.  PERFECT!

Surprise Waiters can get your attention

It’s hard to get 600 people to stop talking…especially when it’s a lowly waiter at a microphone on a large stage…

But that’s why our client hired us-we specialize in how to get people’s attention.  James, our general manager (and former singer with The Los Angeles Opera), who himself has performed over a thousand singing waiters shows, took 600 boisterous entrepreneurs on a musical journey, while the hotel wait staff seamlessly served the enthusiastic guests.  The presentation ending with a thunderous standing ovation (OK, the end of the song DID include two guys doing the song’s signature kick line).

Just when you think you’ve seen it all…

Our third waiter, a fabulous Soprano, surprises both men with the Broadway hit, “Don’t Rain On My Parade” from the musical Funny Girl, made famous by Barbara Streisand.  Things got crazy from there.  But, we won’t divulge that information as what happens in Indianapolis STAYS in Indianapolis!  Needless to say, our three amazing surprise waiters tirelessly worked the room and hopefully left no one feeling lonely (even in a room of 600 people)!

Amazing Singing Waiter Holiday Show in Rolling Hills, California

The Amazing Waiters brought in the Holiday Season with some personally served surprise entertainment for a lovely group of ladies at their Country Club Holiday Luncheon in Rolling Hills, California this past weekend.

Posing as Waiters, the guys infiltrated the on-site staff and proceeded to transform from waiters to entertainers singing a mix of Christmas Classics, Rat Pack and Broadway Favorites intertwined with a specially-written script.  The ladies were completely surprised!

“It was great to get back to one of our favorite clients on the Peninsula here in LA”, stated Singing Waiter, James. “I really don’t think they were seeing a show until our third waiter made his grand entrance.  By then, we were singing our 4th or 5th song…It was a fun time!”.

Rave Wedding Entertainment Review from our Boston Show

This was so good, we had to share…

This past weekend, The Amazing Waiters were privileged, to surprise BOTH Bride and Groom with a gift from the Mother of the Bride.  Although sometimes risky (when both parties don’t know) to do a wedding reception show like this without either knowing, we were happy to customize this show around and even embracing that with the blessing of the Bride’s Mother.

It was a very cool (although weather-wise it wasn’t) outdoor Bostonian-Styled wedding and reception with the blazers and light pants.  The tables were very elegant outside this hidden stone manor about an hour north of the City Proper.

This show featured James (General Manager of TAW) and Sean (our East Coast TAW Representative), two long time friends and very versed in handling about anything that can get  thrown at them.

The specially written show consisted of inside jokes, dialogue and some fabulous songs that ranged from Broadway, Jazz (Rat Pack) to Opera.  The surprise knocked the newlyweds for a loop and brought them to their feet numerous times during the show.

After the show, the mother of the bride sent a very nice letter that is most worth sharing:

Hi James,

Besides our beautiful daughter and new son in law, the Amazing Waiters stole the show. You were simply extraordinarily amazing and fun. The sad thing the singing was so good we wanted to hear more and more songs. Everyone was surprised and some were so touched by the choice of songs that they choked up.

Laguna Beach Party Gets Singing Waiters

Ahhhhh…We just love it when we get to an event and a staff member says that their particular group has difficulty giving attention.  Really…..We love it.  It’s a challenge we have been faced with about every single show we’ve ever done.  Why?  Because The Amazing Waiters, Singing Waiter Show is a surprise!  By that definition, party guests don’t have a clue as to what is going on. Especially when a waiter starts talking from the stage. Why would they pay attention to a waiter?  Well, normally, that would be true.  But our shows are designed to take party guests from 0 to 100 in about 20 Seconds!
This is what happened to a very talkative group of professionals in Laguna Beach this very evening.

Admittedly, the group was VERY chatty.  Lots of networking and that’s a very good thing for you event planners out there.  You want your guests to be engaged, stimulated to network and of course, never, ever bored.  The challenge is how to get those very guests wrangled, directed and moved in a timely manner.  It’s kind of like herding cats.  Never done that, but you get the imagery.

Having done this for well over a decade, there is a formula to getting unsuspecting guests attention quickly and efficiently.  It is not for the faint of heart.  You have to get their attention and then hold it.  Blow it early and you’re dead!  Curtain please!

All Amazing Waiter Shows are specially-written.  This was no different.  Our guests had specific characteristics we were able to draw upon in writing a quick and effective script allowing great music to be woven around.  Our three leading men (The Amazing Waiters X3) took control of the room, and made an already elegant evening, one that will be talked about and we’re sure uploaded, with numerous cell phone cameras and even an Amazing Waiter FIRST,   a selfie with one of the attendees.  Although we didn’t get it, if you see this post, you HAVE to send it to us!!  (You know who you are!).

One of our Singing Waiters actually was more of an MC later in the evening, as after our actual show and the “cat was our of the bag”, singing waiter, John went back to the stage to reintroduce the electronic violinists (our new friends) to play a Rock Cover as a closer!

Criteria Explained

“Well, three…that’s not that much!”, you say…or think…and you might be right.  All of The Amazing Waiter performers have major Broadway, Opera or Theatrical experience.  Or what we call, “Street Cred”.  They’ve earned their stripes as a singer in the real performing world.  That’s “singing is your career”.

Being A Waiter Gives You Amazing Insight In Being A Singing Waiter

“How?” You ask…Well, a singing waiter poses as a waiter.  And we like to think being a method actor is a great approach in this instance.  “Being, is”.  Be a waiter and a singer, and you are by definition, a “Singing Waiter”.  Having experience in how people are in a banquet or party setting will help you immensely when you are tasked to “set up” the show by hoaxing as a waiter.  You have to be believable, know how to pour water, how to set and clear plates, etc.  Know the lingo and you’ll be respected by the staff that  you are trying to look and pose like.  Life just got a lot easier.

Improv will save your backside!

Yes, you’ve learned your parts and you’re ready to sing your little heart out.  But, what makes this type of entertainment fun and scary all at the same time is that the unexpected improv will save your backside as a singing waiterprobably will happen.  And it won’t happen the way you might think.  Having those improvisational skills as an entertainer, not just as a singing waiter, but as a career entertainer will serve you well Jedi!
