Surprise Waiters for Six Hundred

Thank you, Alex!  I’ll take Surprise Waiters for 600…

It this even possible?  Can three performers surprise and entertain six hundred unsuspecting guests effectively?  Why yes.  Of course, we can!  And that’s what our surprise waiters did recently in the awesome city of Indianapolis, Indiana for a great group of independent cable visionaries that were convening on the city for brainstorming and networking sessions.

As we do, when a client decides to have The Amazing Waiters for their event, large or small, we begin gathering information about their party.  Everything from time lines to possible themes and even special VIPs or guests that may be attendance.  Once we have all necessary information, we begin tossing ideas back and forth with the client regarding how and where the special show will happen during the event.  During this phase, we discovered something interesting-something that took us back to our roots…when we entertained guests in Europe many moons ago…

SOUP COURSE PRESENTATION

Our clients are awesome.  We love it when they have crazy or unorthodox ideas about their event.  We love it when they like to integrate our surprise shows within these fun ideas.  And voila!  This was one of those moments.  Our client wanted to introduce the first course (the soup course) with a parade of waiters marching out, single file and serving the guests.  Our client wanted to know if we, as waiters could perform our surprise show during this time.  And of course, this course was PERFECT because, as mentioned earlier, we used to do this very thing as the original singing waiters act in Europe and it was high time we dusted off one of our signature songs that would be singularly appropriate for this presentation.  Be Our Guest from “Beauty and the Beast”.  We would sing the song while the parade of service staff entered the room with the soup.  PERFECT!

Surprise Waiters can get your attention

It’s hard to get 600 people to stop talking…especially when it’s a lowly waiter at a microphone on a large stage…

But that’s why our client hired us-we specialize in how to get people’s attention.  James, our general manager (and former singer with The Los Angeles Opera), who himself has performed over a thousand singing waiters shows, took 600 boisterous entrepreneurs on a musical journey, while the hotel wait staff seamlessly served the enthusiastic guests.  The presentation ending with a thunderous standing ovation (OK, the end of the song DID include two guys doing the song’s signature kick line).

Just when you think you’ve seen it all…

Our third waiter, a fabulous Soprano, surprises both men with the Broadway hit, “Don’t Rain On My Parade” from the musical Funny Girl, made famous by Barbara Streisand.  Things got crazy from there.  But, we won’t divulge that information as what happens in Indianapolis STAYS in Indianapolis!  Needless to say, our three amazing surprise waiters tirelessly worked the room and hopefully left no one feeling lonely (even in a room of 600 people)!

Parties are always fun, no matter the time of year. They’re even better when it’s your 50th birthday, surrounded by 50 of your closest friends.  Such was the case this past weekend in Calabasas, California for a 50th Birthday Surprise Party with The Amazing Waiters (just north of Los Angeles for those of you who don’t know where this is…it’s where Justin Bieber used to live before he sold to Khloe Kardashian in 2014, but we digress).  Needless-to-say, Calabasas is lovely.

We were contacted by the birthday girl’s mother who wanted to do something different and special for her daughter and thought The Amazing Waiters would be a nice addition to the festivities.  She wanted to keep it a surprise for her.

Well, the birthday girl was one of those people.  And it’s good she knew before the “surprise”.  We immediately received a call from here and we walked through our proposed surprise show for her.  After some discussion, we adjusted the show to her expectations regarding time line and music preference and immediately began refining her show.

SURPRISES ALL AROUND

Our 2 awesome singing waiters managed to surprise the fifty ladies (yes, all women at this birthday party) and we previously decided that our waiter, Allie would be a planted guest and at the “right” time, would be pulled into the show.  Actually, our waiter, Ben pulled her into the show through a brilliant rouse while he was posing the head waiter.  It never ceases to amaze guests when the waiter starts singing…and singing well.

As it became more evident that these waiters had skills, the show’s apex was some unique A Capella singing that went immediately into a song from the show Glee!, closing with Pharrell’s “Happy” (who doesn’t want to toe-tap to THAT?).

Mom and Daughter loved the show and what it brought to the party.  Guests had a great time and we did too!

Surprise Birthday Party with The Amazing Waiters

Having started in Southern California, The Amazing Waiters have constructed a surprise birthday party…or two over the last decade but it never gets boring!

This past weekend, our 2 Amazing Waiters, Ryan and John were asked to surprise our host’s mother on her 80th Birthday.  “She loves Frank Sinatra and the music of the Rat Pack Era”…it’s what she grew up on and I know she would love it so much…it’s going to be my gift to her”.

It was a lovely indoor-outdoor setting for 15 guests on a lovely Fall afternoon in the Hills.  Our fabulous duo set up the intimate sound system and prepared the final details for the surprise.

Surprise Birthday Party Entertainers

Our dashing guys filtered into the staff, charming the unsuspecting guests and when the reveal time was near, the guys eased seamlessly into an unforgettable scripted show (that was tailored for the guest of honor, of course) that featured many of the staple signature songs of Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin and the famed Rat Pack of the 1960’s.

“Being able to sing acoustically was key for this particular event”, stated Ryan.  We couldn’t have brought a bulky sound system with microphones…it would have ruined the intimate feeling for those 16 guests”.  Ryan was correct and that’s why all of our performers have operatic training to not have to rely on microphones, if necessary.

The guest of honor’s friends and relatives loved the show and we did too.  Happy 80th Birthday Barbara!  We hope to sing at your 90th!

Chicago Singing Waiters dazzle at a Chicago Fundraiser

The Amazing Waiters had recent privilege to celebrate Greek Heritage here in Chicago, Illinois recently. Celebrating the Greek City of Tripoli, Greece, the organization gets together one time a year for its annual fundraiser and is always looking for fun and unique entertainment.

ONE YEAR TOO SOON

The President and organizer of this year’s event, Dino, was excited to try to have us this year. “Last year, we tried to make it happen, but our singing waiters were so new in Chicago that we were unable to fulfill the request”, stated James Anest, General director of The Amazing Waiters. “So, we decided to table it until next year…sure enough, I pleased to receive a call from Dino asking if our Chicago Singing Waiters were able to make it happen this year and I said “you bet!” we’re going to make it happen!”

We were very excited to work on this show for many reasons.  One, it is in our Regional “backyard”, being Singing Waiters in Chicago, but other is much closer to James’ heart….and heritage…a Greek-American himself, he was very excited to put together a fun and entertaining show with a special surprise twist to reflect Greek Heritage as well as the various musical tastes that this dynamic group of people would appreciate. “You guys knocked it out of the park!”, Dino exclaimed. “You hit every age group in the audience and they absolutely loved it. It was great!”

ENTERTAINMENT FOR ALL AGES

It especially wonderful watching the younger audience members intrigued interested in what the show was delivering. Singing everything from Broadway, Opera, to Rat Pack-inspired music, made famous by The famed Las Vegas Trio in the 1950’s and 60’s, the diverse show was incredibly successful. To top it all off, James  surprised and entertained the guests by speaking Greek and seamlessly finishing with the Greek classic from Zorba the Greek, “Never On Sunday”, with James and Cassandra, (our latest addition who is also Greek) a Chicago native, singing and clapping along with the guests.  Even our third waiter, Chris who is not Greek had great fun dancing the Greek folk Style. 🙂

Always ready for a fun surprise, The Amazing Waiters, the world’s leading Singing Waiters act, tailored a especially-scripted show for unsuspecting guests in West Palm Beach Florida this past month. Our 2 Amazing Waiters show featured two of our leading male performers, posing as waiters and surprising dinner guests at a very elegant dinner event in West Palm Beach.

“We love surprises”, the coordinator of the event mentioned, “This has been so hush-hush, only a few people know that you’re even going to be here”.

It’s fun to know that in a few minutes our waiters we will be performing a fun and interactive singing show for the very same guests…and the look on their faces is priceless.

This particular event in Palm Beach included music from The Rat Pack era, Italian favorites, Broadway shows (like Chicago) and Light Opera.  

A fun time was had by all and many appreciated the surprise element of our show. Our Singing Waiters are looking forward to a repeat performance, sometime in the very near future with one of our other amazing waiter shows…Maybe a SINGING CHEF?

JAMES ANEST AS “EL GALLO” IN THE FANTASTICKS

CHICAGO ENTERTAINMENT NEWS

Bringing Chicago Entertainment News, we congratulate the creator and Artistic Director of The Amazing Waiters, James Anest on his upcoming portrayal of El Gallo in one of the most loved Musicals of all time, The Fantasticks.  The longest-running Off Broadway show in History will be re-created with a seldom-heard 23 Piece Orchestra and larger sets, at the Light Opera Works in Chicago, Illinois.  The show runs for two weekends only, from June 6th to June 14th at the Cahn Auditorium in Evanston, Illinois.

SINGING WAITERS PERFORM SURPRISE SHOWS ACROSS THE UNITED STATES

Performing across the United States we get to see a lot of places, the insides of hotels, conference rooms, etc.  We also get to meet lots and lots of people along the way.  Recently, we had the privileged to construct a special singing waiters surprise show for a wedding reception in the Naples, Florida area.

If you’ve never been in this part of the country in the Spring, it’s worth the trip.  There’s a reason why Snow Birds from the “North” reside down there during the cold, blustery Winter months.  It’s lovely.

SINGING WAITERS SHOW IN NAPLES, FLORIDA

Edie is a former Broadway “Baby”, having sung in several theatrical productions in her career and knew what she wanted and how she wanted it.  When she contacted us, she literally auditioned us with numerous questions about our show, our singers, etc.  She was clearly not an “average” client.  As we talked we finally got to singers…singers who might be doing the show…and as chance would have it (or not) we have a couple of well-known Broadway performers on our modest roster in the NY Area…one of which she knew (of) very well.  When his name came up, she immediately wanted to know if he’d be available.  Well, he was and that was that.  Edie, was thrilled.  Not only was she getting a personalized show, she was getting a performer that she knew and had seen on Broadway.  She immediately secured the details (this was 6 months prior) and we were off to the races!

TRAVELING AND MEETING GREAT PEOPLE

As mentioned earlier, we get to meet a lot of people along the way.  We also get to know our Clients pretty well during the process of writing and creating their special show.  This journey was no different…among many things, we learned that Edie’s fiance was a special forces war veteran (retired) and her mother was a former Opera Star with The Metropolitan Opera and she would be at the wedding reception.  We were thrilled.  We immediately wanted to sing, “Nessun Dorma” from Puccini’s Opera, “Turandot” as a sort of homage to her and her career.  It was PERFECT!

With the water and weather perfectly blending, and the Spring taste in the air, we had a great time singing a fabulous surprise Singing Waiters Show for the newly weds. The guests were thrilled and there was much laughter had by all.  There are a few great photos on our website and we hope to post a little video from the ceremony at a later date.

SURPRISE HOLIDAY ENTERTAINMENT FOR A LUNCHEON IN LOS ANGELES

The Amazing Waiters brought in the Holiday Season with some personally served surprise entertainment for a lovely group of ladies at their Country Club Holiday Luncheon in Rolling Hills, California this past weekend.

Posing as Waiters, the guys infiltrated the on-site staff and proceeded to transform from waiters to entertainers singing a mix of Christmas Classics, Rat Pack and Broadway Favorites intertwined with a specially-written script.  The ladies were completely surprised!

“It was great to get back to one of our favorite clients on the Peninsula here in LA”, stated Singing Waiter, James. “I really don’t think they were seeing a show until our third waiter made his grand entrance.  By then, we were singing our 4th or 5th song…It was a fun time!”.

The club wanted the Amazing Waiter special sound option which made it very easy for them.  We had the peace of mind of having our own sound system and they were relieved they didn’t have to coordinate a third party for our needs.

New York Singing Waiters Surprise Wedding Guests

Last night, The Amazing Waiters were honored to be a part of a very elegant Scottish (the groom was Scottish) Wedding Reception at the Gramercy Park Hotel in the heart of New York City!  Singing at the rooftop of this elegant property with the help of the on-site DJ, the duo surprised unsuspecting wedding guests with laughter and great singing from Broadway, Opera and Italian Favorites like “Time To Say Goodbye” and “O Sole Mio (It’s Now Or Never).
